Friends believe that each of us can have a direct, personal relationship with the holy spirit. Reflecting this more individual approach to faith and spirituality, Friends developed a list of questions (called Queries) that help keep our relationship with the inward light and others on track with the values we seek to uphold as Friends.

January  Queries

Ohio Valley Yearly Meeting Faith and Practice:

Do you attend meetings for worship in a spirit of willing service and of prayerful desire to make them profitable to each individual and to the assembled group? Are you prepared for worship expecting that you worship will be a source of strength and guidance? Are you careful not to disturb the spirit of the meeting by late arrival? Do you practice a waiting spiritual worship and a free and open ministry under Divine Guidance?

Contributions toward the Meeting can be placed in a offering plate at the entrance of the Meeting Room or mail

Holy Silence: The Quaker Way with J. Brent Bill January 12 - February 6

http://www.spiritualityandpractice.com/ecourses/ecourses.php?id=185&key=jbb

The lessons will go out via email on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays beginning 1/12.  There are  12 lessons delivered by email in which J. Brent Bill shares what Holy Silence is and offers tools for entering into it. These tools include practical advice and Quaker Queries — a unique form of asking non-directive questions for spiritual growth.  Each lesson will have mini-practices to be done during your day related to the themes of the emails.
The lesson topics are

• A Sacramental Silence
• A Different Sort of Silence
• An Expectant Silence
• A Silence to Carry With Us
• Silence in a Non-Silent World
• A Time for Silence
• A Space for Silence
• The Silence of Self-Care
• A Refreshing Silence  • A Silence that Sifts
• A Silence that Corrects
• A Silence that Empowers

The course also offers access to an online Practice Circle. This is a forum open 24/7 where you are invited to comment on the ideas in the emails, share their experiences with the practices, and hear and respond to J. Brent Bill's thoughts. Sometime during the 4 weeks, every participant will have the opportunity to participate in a one-hour teleconference with Brent Bill and the other participants.
